On Monday 30th April, thirteen Year 10 GCSE Leisure and Tourism students, Mrs Carter, myself and Mr Brotherton set off for a magical revision tour in the Chilterns, Bedfordshire. In June the students will be sitting an exam worth 33% of their double GCSE course. The idea was to experience real examples of leisure and tourist attractions and activities to use as case studies for the exam.

On the Monday we squeezed into the minibus and headed to Whipsnade Zoo where we spent all day researching the facilities available for visitors and looking at the animals (the lemurs were the friendliest by far). We then checked into a luxury youth hostel for our short break and settled ourselves in. Mrs Carter cooked us a yummy dinner of spag bol and the students then washed up without being asked! Some students were shocked to discover that the television was broken so Mr Brotherton took us on a nice little drive in the minibus.

Early on Tuesday we headed to Dunstable Downs for a short country walk that included some slopes. Year 10 defined it as a hike in the mountains. Milton Keynes National Bowl was our next stop.

This is a large open-air concert venue where Greenday and Robbie Williams have played recently. A study of the retail therapy facilities in Milton Keynes followed once we managed to lock the minibus! We all decided it reminded us of America with lots of straight roads and malls. We then headed to Luton Airport to find out what you could do whilst waiting to board a flight (not a lot as it turned out).

On our final day we left the youth hostel and set off for St. Albans which is a historical town - very different to the modern Milton Keynes. We looked at the Cathedral, had a cappaccino and fed the ducks.

Our final stop was Wembley Stadium. Our journey home involved lots of singing and, when we arrived in Bognor, students shouted ‘turn around, let’s go back!’

Everyone agreed it was a very successful trip and we learnt lots. Thanks to Mrs Carter for organising the trip, Mr. Brotherton for driving the minibus and myself for being the resident DJ, deciding what vibes we were going to listen to!

Good luck in the exam Year 10!
