Felpham’s Cyber Mentors received a free ‘Drum Education’ workshop led by Ollie Heath on 1st July. The Cyber Mentors, from years 7-9, were involved in a 2 hour drum session for being finalist in the West Sussex Safer Place Award (a county competition to develop schools/community approaches to bullying issues). Various drum kits of all shapes and sizes were used to give students the opportunity of learning about Rights and Responsibilities, being a positive role model, and being positive citizens.

They were taught these skills through drumming and music. Learning how beats and rhythm help people to communicate and how lyrics are used as messages to people. Students were worked through various sessions and learnt about Children’s rights through the medium of music. Students showed great enjoyment, and it was pleasing to see them rewarded for their hard work this year in making FCC a safer place. Future drum sessions are planned, please see Miss Matthews for details.
