On March 6th, Felpham’s year 12 Media students travelled to Chichester University for a Media taster day. The main aim of the day was to give the students a brief idea of what university lifestyle is like and what advanced equipment would be available to them if they were to take a higher education media course. The Media Studies course leader at Chichester University, Mike Ribbans, started the day off by giving a short lecture on the options that would become available to students if they decided to take a media-oriented course, a talk that the group found interesting and informative.

After a short break, the group were treated to an exciting and engaging lecture by Adam Locks, this one about vampires and their roles in horror movies over the years. The students analysed several extracts of different movies, discussing the conventions that were related to vampires.

A screenwriting activity followed, led by Michael Holley, as the students were asked to each create vampire characters and place them into a scene, which several groups acted out. Before they left, the media students were toured round the campus by students at the university, giving them a taste of university life and showing them around the media facilities that were available to them. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by the Media students, many of whom were excited by the prospect of higher education.
