Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 students have 8 lessons each fortnight and are banded into broad groups based on ability. In Year 9, as well as upper and lower bands, the most able students are put into accelerated classes which study higher level resources including GCSE texts.

Gifted and talented students are encouraged to lead parts of lessons and are given extended reading and writing projects. The department has a full-time Higher Level Teaching Assistant who takes small groups out of lessons and produces resources for less-able students.
At lunchtime and after school, students can attend a variety of English-related clubs, including creative writing, calligraphy, journalism, the Double-Quick Games Club, homework club and book club.

English KS4

GCSE English is a core subject and is studied by all students at Key Stage 4. There is also the opportunity to study for the GCSE in English Literature.

English KS5

At Key Stage 5 we offer a choice of English Language and English Literature at both AS and A2 levels.
