Key Stage 4

Assessment

In KS4 (years 10 & 11), students complete regular assessments which are linked to their GCSE or BTEC syllabus. These assessments build to form an accurate picture of their current grade. Students are set challenging end of key stage targets which they need to work hard to achieve. We use ‘attitude to learning’ grades and criteria to communicate these high standards.

In addition to the current grade and target grade, teachers also report an estimated grade. This is a projection forward of what final grade might be achieved based on work seen to date. In KS4, the report colour codes the gap between the estimated grade and the target grade. The colours therefore reflect the difference between the target grade and the grade the teacher anticipates your child will attain.

Most grades are communicated in the form of ‘fine grades’ e.g 5+, 5, 5-, so that staff, students and parents are aware of how securely they fit within a grade. The final examination results will be reported in whole grades. BTEC qualifications will be reported as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.  Please click here to see the grades to number equivalency.

Student’s attitude to learning is also regularly assessed using the grades 1-4. Please click here to view the criteria.
