FCC celebrate UK Parliament week with Mr Gibb, local MP

Felpham Community College hosted a variety of events in support of UK Parliament week (1st – 7th November 2021) which were well received by students and staff.

Mr Nick Gibb, Conservative MP for Bognor and Littlehampton, attended FCC on Friday 4th November to take part in a debate workshop with the student Whole School Council. Chaired by two members of the sixth form Student Leadership Team, students debated two education related topics –  ‘Is the National Curriculum for 11-16 year olds old fashioned and out of date?’ and ‘Should all students be required to attend an extra-curricular sports club each week in term time to promote health and wellbeing?’. Mr Gibb and Mr Anstiss, Headteacher, joined in with the debates and voting and also gave the group advice on how to debate and prepare.

Other events throughout the week included all students and staff being invited to nominate and then vote for what charities the school community should support this academic year with events. And in form time, Student Council Reps led discussions and gathered feedback regarding what FCC should be doing in support of Climate Change and Cop 26, and how could the current food serving facilities be improved at FCC. This feedback will be discussed at the next Whole School Council meeting.
