Important update to all education and childcare settings on the COVID Omicron variant

Dear Parent / Carer

In recent weeks we have had very low incidence of COVID infection in school.

However, the Department of Education announced on Sunday, that all schools have been told to reintroduce face coverings for staff and students in Year 7 and above in communal areas amid concerns over the new COVID variant.

Therefore, from Wednesday 1st December face coverings will be required in corridors and the canteen for all students (unless they are exempt).  Students should continue to wear face coverings on public transport.

We understand that not all students will have a mask readily available given the short notice, however please could parents / carers ensure students have a mask available from this Thursday 2nd December. Any student who is unable to wear a covering can use our exemption badges which are available from Year Offices.

In order to further protect children and families in the run up to the Christmas break, regrettably we have taken the decision to cancel events where large gatherings may occur. The Christmas Fair, Year 7 & 8 disco and drama production will now be postponed until the spring term and the Carol Concert planned for 15th December will be cancelled.

We are very sorry that we have had to take these steps, but feel it is the right course of action given the current position with the new COVID variant and government advice.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Anstiss
Headteacher
