Mathematics Learning Journey
|
At Key Stage 3 students have eight lessons each fortnight and are taught in sets based on the ability of the student. In year 7 the year group is split in half with one higher set, two middle sets and one lower set per half. In year 8 students are taught in more refined sets and in year 9 they taught in five sets and the most able students are put into accelerated classes which study higher level resources including the GCSE.

GCSE Mathematics is a core subject and is studied by all students. Our students benefit from an expert team of maths teachers, including a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and a dedicated Teaching Assistant.
Topics are taught using a range of appropriate and stimulating resources. Targeted funding has allowed us to include an extra set in each half of the year group, thus reducing class sizes in years 9, 10 and 11. Students are taught in five ability sets and our regular assessments allow us to track their progress and change their set where appropriate.
An additional qualification (AQA Further Mathematics FSMQ level 2) is offered as an extra-curricular option to the most able students in year 11.
