Year 10

Careers Programme 🚀

It’s time to turn choices into action!

In Year 10, you’re now studying your GCSE subjects and beginning to think more seriously about your next steps after school. This is your chance to explore how your choices can lead to different pathways and career opportunities.

This year, you will:

  • 🔎 Explore careers linked directly to your GCSE subjects
  • 🏫 Learn about Post-16 options such as A Levels, college courses, and apprenticeships
  • 💼 Develop real-world skills like teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving
  • 🎤 Start preparing for experiences like work experience and employer encounters

✅ Tips for Choosing (and Sticking with) GCSE Subjects

  • Pick subjects you enjoy and are good at – you’re more likely to succeed
  • Keep your options open if you’re unsure (e.g. science, maths, English are always valuable)
  • Research careers that interest you and check what subjects they require
  • Talk to teachers, parents, and careers advisers for guidance
  • Don’t choose subjects just because your friends are — this is your future

Careers Guidance Meetings

Our Year 10 students benefit from personalised careers guidance provided by our external Careers Advisor, Mel Ponteresso. These one-to-one or small group sessions help students to explore their next steps – whether that’s sixth form, college, or an apprenticeship.

The advice is tailored to each student’s interests and aspirations, offering support and clarity as they prepare for the next stage of their education journey. It’s a valuable opportunity to ask questions, gain insight, and feel more confident about the future.

New for 2026 – Year 10 Mock Interview Day

This is a new feature for Year 10 and will take place in July 2026. Our annual Mock Interview Day is a well established event designed to prepare students for the world of work. With the support of our dedicated team of volunteers, students take part in one-to-one interviews and receive valuable, personalised feedback to help them build confidence and improve their interview skills. This experience plays a key role in developing employability and communication skills, and it is an important part of our careers programme.
