Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral.

The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19^th September 2022. It has now been confirmed by the government that this day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges.

I am therefore writing to confirm that Felpham Community College will be closed, for all students and staff, next Monday.

Today is a sad day for the United Kingdom.

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II will affect us all in different ways. As a school, our strength lies in
our unity and kindness.

The school staff will support our students, and each other, in the coming days at this sad and difficult
time for the country.

Whilst there will be a period of national mourning, Buckingham Palace and the government are not
suggesting that schools close during this time but use the time in school to provide support, time to
reflect, and also time to celebrate the life of Her Majesty.

Whilst details will emerge of the funeral arrangements over the coming days, we will await further
information from government and the Palace on arrangements for schools at that time. We will
ensure that we keep you informed.
