Our Charity Youth Action Week is back!

8^th -12^th July 2024

Raising money for Chestnut Tree House, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support and Improving Facilities for students at FCC

Felpham Community College welcomed a group of international teachers at the end of May / beginning of June, as part of an exchange programme beween the South Korean government and Chichester University.

The South Korean teachers teach English as a second language back in their country. They came to the UK to gain a deeper understanding of the language, culture and educational system. During their time at FCC, they have completed observations of lessons within various departments of the school including English, modern languages and English as an additional language. They have also taught some lessons to FCC students – including how to write your name in Korean, tea tasting and environmentally friendly trades between the two nations.

Mrs Cauchy-Duval, Teacher of modern languages, commented:
“Our students have enjoyed the exchange and have learnt a lot about the culture and traditions of South Korea. A group of our FCC Student Councillors also had the opportunity to have a Q&A session with them, where they talked about life in Korea, education and politics, which everyone enjoyed. The teachers and the supervisors of the programme have complemented us on how well our students conduct themselves, and their participation and engagement.”

Felpham Community College have completed a busy and productive half term by holding a non-school uniform day, fundraising for the NSPCC.

Held on Friday 24^th May, students and staff were invited to pay £1 and wear non-uniform, with everyone being encouraged to wear green in support of the NSPCC logo. Student Council Reps supported the fundraising by helping to collect in the donations, and the Sixth Form ‘Make a Difference’ committee co-ordinated and promoted the event.

It has been a busy Spring term at Felpham with charity work, with the Charity Talent Show taking place just before Easter and a group of our students also supporting the ‘Save The Post Office’ evening event at the beginning of May.

Imogen Orde, Student Leadership in charge of Charity commented:

“We hold lots of charity events throughout the year and it is a great way to raise awareness, have fun and fundraise at the same time. We are now busy preparing for the busy and popular Youth Action Week which takes place in July.”

NSPCC

On Tuesday 14^th May, a group of FCC students supported a local community charity event, held at St Mary’s Centre in Felpham Village.

‘Save the Felpham Post Office’ – a local community initiative, held the event as part of their ongoing campaign. The sold-out event was ‘An Audience with Bill Nighy’.

A group of year 12 FCC students helped with the setting up of the event and welcoming guests. They also provided, along with a student from year 8, the musical entertainment for the beginning of the evening. Karina Natkinis – year 8 student, and Eloise Lyons and Libby Wood – both from year 12, performed their winning pieces from the hugely popular ‘Felpham’s Got Talent’ show which took place last term in support of the campaign.

The evening was a fantastic success and it was brilliant that our FCC students were able to join in. They were also lucky enough to meet Bill Nighy and chat to him about all thing’s showbiz!

Felpham Community College held a cheque presentation ceremony on Tuesday 30^th April, to present the ‘Friends of Felpham – Save the Village Post Office’ committee with a cheque for £1000.

The fundraising for the community project took place last term, with FCC hosting a Talent Show on the 26^th March. The event was a sell-out performance to family, friends and the local community. A wide variety of acts from across year groups took part in the show. Feedback from the audience, judges and staff was fantastic with everyone commenting how talented the students are and how good the show was.  

The students who performed at the event met with Lizzie Mickery, from the Friends of Felpham Committee, on the 30^th April to present her with the cheque and find out how it will support the campaign.

Lizzie Mickery commented:
“It was a privilege to be on the judges’ panel at the Talent Show. The standard of talent was extraordinary and all the students who took part did exceptionally well. Felpham Post Office is an integral part of village life and keeping it open will support both the community and local businesses. Thank you to Felpham for joining us with your fundraising.”

Friends of Felpham – Save Our Post Office

Congratulations to Felpham year 13 students – Toby Clegg, Olivia Vine and Isabelle Isitt – who won a ‘Felpham Hero’ award on Saturday 27^th April.

The Awards were organised by Felpham Parish Council, to celebrate local people who deserve to be recognised for their outstanding work with assisting others. Toby, Olivia and Isabelle won the 11-18 category for their charity and community work.

Mrs Chester, Charity Co-ordinator at FCC commented:
“Toby, Olivia and Isabelle were part of the sixth form Student Leadership Team at Felpham Community College. They supported younger students, led events and activities for students from a variety of age groups, and showed kindness, support and compassion to students. They were influential with our charity events helping fundraise and organise/run events including our youth action week, charity dog walk, non-school uniform days, foodbank donation drive, Christmas Fayre and the charity talent show. They have helped the school raise over £10,000 for various charities and FCC in a year.
They are a real credit to their families and the school community, as the time, effort and enthusiasm they have put in has gone above what we expect from them within their Student Leadership role. Well done guys, you thoroughly deserve the award.”

Well done to the Felpham Community College extra-curricular Dance House Team who performed at Worthing Pavilion on Tuesday 23^rd April as part of the Dance House showcase, along with a number of other local schools.

The FCC team of year 7-10 girls had been learning their routine since the beginning of the Spring Term – a hip hop piece titled ‘The Business’, based around determination and reaching for your goals.

Miss Crocker, Teacher of Dance, commented:
“The show was a sell-out, it was great to see the team performing to a packed live audience after working so hard for months learning and perfecting the routine. We have received some fantastic feedback following the performance – with other schools and parents even contacting us to comment how incredible the Felpham performance was! Well done girls, fantastic work.”
