Felpham Community College Youth Action Week

Youth Action Week at FCC was back for another popular year! Running from the 7th to the 11th July, it was a fantastic week of activities for students. A chance to fundraise and have fun at the (nearly!) end of a busy year.

Students voted back in September for what charities they wished to support with all fundraising events running across the year.  For 2024/2025, the following charities were chosen:

  • My Sisters House
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Dogs for Autism
  • Clymping Dog Sanctuary
  •  Breast Cancer Now
  • Improving Facilities for Students at FCC

It was an action-packed week of events, including a Summer Fete, two hugely popular Sponge the Teachers, a Sponsored Swim, a Football Tournament and a Colour Run. There was also a charity tuck shop running every day at both break and lunch selling a wide variety of treats, which grew more popular throughout the week and was a complete sell out on the Friday!

All events were supported by the Sixth Form Charity Committee who help organise and run charity events at FCC throughout the academic year.

Rebecca Clarke, Student Leadership in charge of charity commented:
“It has been such a busy week; and it has been great to see so many people supporting us with the events. Our Summer Fete was great fun and had a variety of stalls including a Human Fruit Machine and a Penalty Shoot Out. The teachers who did Sponge the Teacher were fantastic as they got soaked – with some students even paying for a whole bucket to throw instead of a sponge! The Sponsored Swim was really popular this year, we had nearly 100 students taking part. This was the first year we have had the Football Tournament and it was a great success.

We are now busy collecting in all the sponsorship from the events and working out how much we have raised, and then next term we will hold a charity cheque presentation ceremony for the charities to come in and hear about our Youth Action Week and get their cheques. We hope to have raised about £4000 (after expenses) from just the week of activities, which is amazing”.

Felpham Community College Sixth Form have a ball at their Summer Ball!

On Friday 4th July, year 12 and 13 students from Felpham Community College partied the night away at their annual Summer Ball. Over 100 students and staff enjoyed a fun filled evening to celebrate the soon-to-be-finished academic year.

Held at Fontwell Racecourse, it was a fabulous event filled with laughter, food, photo booths and dancing.

Mrs Bloomfield, Assistant Headteacher and Lead for Sixth Form commented:
“Students (and staff!) looked fabulous and very glam!  It has been a fantastic evening, a chance to say goodbye to year 13 and celebrate year 12 completing their first year of sixth form. It is now the countdown to results day in August for year 13. Thank you to everyone who attended the Ball, it was great to see you all enjoying yourselves!”

Farewell to Year 11 Students at Felpham Community College – A Fantastic Send off!

Year 11 students from Felpham Community College attended their Prom on the 27th June, held at Avisford Park Hotel. With the theme of ‘A Night at the Oscars’ it was a very glamorous affair!

Students arrived to a red carpet entrance in a variety of fabulous vehicles, cheered on by family members and staff. The evening included mocktails on arrival, a hot buffet and a number of both serious and tongue in cheek awards – including ‘Most likely to win the lottery and lose the ticket’.

The Prom King and Queen opened the dance floor, and it is safe to say it was a fantastic evening – enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Mrs Reeves, Year 11 Leader at FCC, commented:
“It was a fabulous evening and so lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves. The pandemic hindered their start to secondary school but they have been a great year group and really did deserve the best ending”

Move It Magic!

FCC Dance Students Take the Spotlight in Annual Dance Showcase

On the 1st and 2nd of July, the Felpham Community College Dance Team lit up the stage with their annual ‘Move It!’ Dance Showcase, a vibrant celebration of talent, teamwork, and creativity. 60 students from years 7 to 11 performed a range of routines, the result of months of dedication and rehearsals held four nights a week since January.

The showcase featured a mix of dance styles, from pointe work and expressive contemporary pieces to high-energy hip hop numbers. Audiences were treated to routines inspired by iconic performances, including Michael Jackson’s Thriller and the magical Friend Like Me from Aladdin.

The grand finale brought the house down with a lively and joyful rendition of ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ by One Direction, leaving the audience cheering for more.

The show was choreographed by Miss Crocker alongside the students themselves.

Miss Crocker, Dance Teacher, commented:
“I’m so full of pride! Watching the students take ownership of their work and enjoy themselves so much is incredibly rewarding. ‘Move It!’ not only helps them grow as dancers, but also gives them the chance to make friends, build confidence, and work as a team. WELL DONE to everyone who took part, you are an inspiration for your dedication to dance”.

Student Council Celebrate the End of Successful Year!

At Felpham Community College, the Student Council goes from strength to strength each year. This academic year, there have been a record number of Representatives, with over 130 students across year groups choosing to join the Council.

Each Year Group has their own Year Council at FCC, and then these feed into the Whole School Council. They lead on initiatives and student voice for the school and have been involved with a number of projects – this year these have included developing eco initiatives, improving facilities for students at break and lunch, completing government surveys and leading on charity projects.

The Council celebrated the end of the year on Friday 4th July, with an afternoon of workshops. All Reps were invited to rotate around workshops of their choice. These included looking at Attendance, Summer Reading Initiatives, LGBTQ+, Improving the school site with gardening and litter picking, Charity ideas, Rights Respecting Schools, Reaching out to the community and Politics.

We even had a guest appearance from our local MP, Ms Alison Griffiths! Ms Griffiths commented how brilliant FCC students were with their ideas and enthusiasm.

Mr Summers, Assistant Headteacher commented:
“Our Student Council is a real asset to FCC and it is great to see the students wanting to get involved with so many extra-curricular ideas and initiatives. Their passion and commitment is brilliant, and the afternoon was a way of celebrating a hardworking and successful year.”

Another Successful Year of Magic Moments at Felpham Community College!

Felpham Community College finished their Year 5 ‘Magic Moments’ initiative this week, hosting students from Barton’s, Bersted Green and Rose Green.

Since January, year 5 students from 9 local primary schools have visited FCC, to get a taste of what secondary school is like. Over 500 students have visited in total. They have all had a tour of the school, completed an activity and had a question and answer session with Felpham students. Activities this year have included ‘Spellbinding’ in drama, ‘Dragon Sleighing’ in science, creating giant space posters in art, and completing a languages carousel.

This week, students from Rose Green, Barton’s and Bersted Green made and decorated their own bread creations in food technology (photos showcase these days).

Mr Summers, Assistant Headteacher, commented:
“Our Magic Days have run for over 10 years and we really enjoy giving the younger students the chance to see the difference between a primary and secondary school. It’s a great opportunity for them to see that the move from key stage 2 to key stage 3 education is exciting and not something to be worried about. Our year 9 student helpers are always fantastic at supporting the events and the visitors”

Youth Action Week is back!

SO much fun planned for our biggest fundraising week – and to give students fun at the (nearly!) end of their academic year!
